Eustis has seen its second slaying in less than a week after a 32-year-old Casselberry man was charged with second-degree murder Friday morning following an altercation with his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.
Adam Shawn Blyth also faces additional charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is in the Lake County Detention Center with no bond.
The sheriff's office said Blyth had recently broken up with Natasha Petrinec, who was now dating another man, Adam Pickering. According to Petrinec, she and Pickering were sitting in her vehicle in a pasture behind a house at 21812 Rollingwood Trail in Eustis, when Blyth reportedly showed up shortly before 11 p.m. on Thursday.
Petrinec told sheriff's detectives that both she and Pickering were listening to music when Blyth tapped on the vehicle's window. Blyth reportedly opened the vehicle's door and an altercation ensued.
Petrinec told detectives that during the argument, she heard Pickering say he had been stabbed. She was then able to drive him back to the residence and call for help. Sheriff's deputies arrived at the residence at approximately 10:57 p.m.
The sheriff's office said Petrinec was also cut on her right leg during the altercation.
Pickering, 32, of Titusville, was transported to Florida Hospital Waterman, where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff's detectives arrested Blyth about four hours after the stabbing.
This has been the second murder in Eustis in less than a week. A Sunday night shooting at the Da Village Coin Laundry, 1002 E. McDonald Ave., left one man dead, another in critical condition, and police looking for two suspects.
Eustis police said Asuncion Cristobal Lopez, 23, was pronounced dead at Florida Hospital Waterman shortly after the 10 p.m. incident that appears to have been a robbery. He was washing clothes with Jose Augusto Santos when the shootings occurred. Santos was hospitalized in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police are still looking for the suspected shooters, described as two black males. Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call Crimeline at               800-423-8477        or Eustis police at               352-483-5400       .
Also in the past week, in Sumter County, two other shooting incidents landed two men in jail on attempted murder charges. William K. Smith Jr., 63, of Bushnell, was charged with attempted second-degree murder following an alleged altercation Sunday afternoon that left his son shot multiple times at a residence in the 4100 block of North County Road 475 in Bushnell.
And last Friday, a man wanted on an attempted first-degree murder charge in Leesburg was arrested by Wildwood police. Howard Alexander Russell IV, 24, is suspected in a shooting that injured two men outside the Elk's Club in Leesburg on March 27, authorities said. The victims were identified as Derrick Walker and Devonne Walker.
Russell faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.
