A Spartanburg man was shot and killed outside his residence early this morning in an apparent domestic dispute with his live-in girlfriend, authorities said.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the man as Barry Demayo Jones, 45, of 121 White Oak Road.

According to Capt. Randy Hardy of Spartanburg Public Safety Department, officers responded to a shooting at 1:40 a.m. today and found Jones lying face down in a puddle of blood on the sidewalk that leads to the front door of his residence.

According to an incident report, Jones' 45-year-old girlfriend, Juanita Neal, told police she shot Jones once in the upper right chest after Jones kicked in the front door of the couple's residence. The girlfriend said Jones had left and returned to the residence four times throughout the evening late Saturday, and that she nailed the door frame back together and relocked it after Jones kicked it in following his third return to the home.

The report states the woman warned Jones she was armed with a weapon and would shoot him if he re-entered the home.

No charges have been filed yet pending an investigation by Spartanburg Public Safety. An Autopsy and toxicology study will be performed this afternoon to further the investigation, Clevenger said.

Jones' girlfriend also told police the couple had a history of domestic violence incidents. According to online jail records, Jones was arrested Sept. 21, 2009, and charged with criminal domestic violence and released the same day on $1,000 bond.
