SCOTTSBORO, AL - An ex-wife of Michael Louis Craft, accused of killing 22-year-old Bobbie Nell Nabors Edwards in May 1993, told a Jackson County jury this morning that she was forced by her former husband to drag the victim's body to a well where the body was found 10 months later.
Judy Jones of Huntsville testified that Craft threatened her with a pistol to go to an abandoned home in Hollywood and help him drag the body from a bedroom closet the well where Edwards' remains were found in March 1994.
After arriving at the home, Jones said Craft told her, "This is where I killed Bobbie."
"I told him I didn't want to have anything to do with it," she said. "He said I was going to help...(or) he was going to do me like he did Bobbie."
Jones told jurors that she and Craft "grabbed an ankle and dragged her out the back door" to the well.
This morning's testimony did not reveal a motive for the killing. But when asked by District Attorney Charlie Rhodes whether Craft told her anything, Jones said her former husband told her that he had some marijuana he wanted to show the victim.
On cross-examination by Craft's attorney, Parker Edmiston of Scottsboro, Jones said she first told investigators about the incident in 1994, but did not tell investigators that she had been forced by Craft to help him dispose of the body until 2009. Jones told jurors she was afraid to say anything because Craft had threatened her not to.
Jones and Craft were divorced in November 1996.
In his opening statement to the jury, Rhodes said Edwards was the daughter of another Jackson County Sheriff's Department
Michael Louis Craft
former wife of Craft's, Louise Nabors, whom he was married to before Jones, and that the victim had been shot.
Scottsboro police officer Doug Franks told jurors that Nabors reported her daughter missing on May 8, 1993.
