The suspect shot and killed by a Crenshaw Police officer was likely going to torture and kill his ex-girlfriend, investigators stated at a Wednesday press conference.
The suspect, Lawrence Richardson, was shot and killed Sunday night when his ex-girlfriend, Joyce Betts, requested a police escort to her Sarah, Mississippi home after she noticed her lights were not as she had left them before leaving. Betts had also received several threatening text messages from Richardson.
Crenshaw Police Officer Sean Shelton entered Betts' home, and was ambushed by Richardson, suffering gunshot wounds to his face and side. Officer Shelton returned fire, killing Richardson.
Investigators revealed that Richardson has taken Betts' coffee table and turned in into what appeared to be a torture station, outfitted with duct tape, zip ties and a butcher knife.
Betts hailed Shelton as a hero, risking his life to save her own.
Shelton was last reported in serious condition at The Med.
